Local authorities’ play a vital role in promoting biodiversity

A special webinar focused on the critical role that Local planning authorities play in delivering biodiversity protection and enhancement through the planning process, local policies and practice. Presentations included a review of the RTPI ‘Biodiversity in Planning guidance’, including information about the new Biodiversity Net Gain requirement for English authorities and the Wildlife Assessment Check tool. The Association of Local Environmental Records Centres (ALERC) gave a presentation about the support functions provided by local environmental record centres, in informing local decision-making regarding biodiversity monitoring and management. The Wildlife Trusts shared how local wildlife trusts can offer councils expertise and advise to authorities in relation to planning and development.
